Pediatric Dentistry Q & A
How often should I bring my child to the dentist?
Not everyone realizes that a child’s teeth are not much different from an adult’s. Children can get cavities which might get infected and hurt, the same way as adult teeth do. This is why it is important that children get regular dental check-ups every 6 months. The myth that “it is a baby tooth and it will fall out” is not true. Issues with the “baby teeth” can create problems that affect the development of a child’s permanent teeth and the general health of a child.
What can I do to keep my child’s teeth healthy?
We promote education, prevention, and early intervention at 866-FIX-TEETH. We will work with you to educate your children about their teeth and why taking care of them is so important. We will also teach you and your children the best ways to brush and floss to maintain good oral hygiene and health. Another key part of prevention is avoiding sugary foods and beverages. The bacteria in the mouth thrive on sugars, so it is best to limit children from eating and drinking sugary snacks. Also, during sporting events or high-contact activities, your child should wear a mouthguard to prevent injuries like broken or lost teeth. Early intervention relies on regular dental checkups. When we see your child every 6 months, we can provide treatment before any issues become too serious and difficult to treat.
My child is scared of the dentist, can you help?
Yes! We understand that children are scared or get nervous about the dentist. We offer a child-friendly environment and talk to our young patients to make sure they understand what we do and why. If your little one is too young or too anxious, we do offer sedation services to help him or her to relax throughout treatment.
